Overview of the Honolulu Marathon
The Honolulu Marathon is one of the top ten largest marathons globally, held annually on the second Sunday of December. Known for its scenic route and friendly atmosphere, it attracts runners from all over the world.
Race Route
The marathon begins at Ala Moana Beach Park on Ala Moana Boulevard. Runners head through downtown, past Honolulu Harbor and the historic Aloha Tower, then turn into Chinatown and proceed back through the town center. The course continues through Waikiki, passing the Sheraton Moana Surfrider and Waikiki Beach, around Honolulu Zoo, and through Kapiolani Park.
Key highlights include:
- Diamond Head: A challenging uphill segment with stunning views of Oahu’s east coastline.
- Residential Areas: Kahala, Waialae Iki, Aina Haina, Niu Valley, and Hawaii Kai.
- Scenic Spots: Maunalua Bay Beach Park, Waialae Country Club, and Sans Souci Beach.
The race finishes at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand, completing a picturesque journey through Honolulu.
